Merimbula RSL donates to flood-impacted clubs
The Merimbula RSL Club community has banded together for flood-impacted areas in northern NSW and donated $7000 to the ClubsNSW Flood Emergency Fundraiser.
The RSL’s Friday night raffles raised $1,893 and the club topped this up to $2,000 to go towards clean-up and recovery efforts. The RSL has pledged a further $5000 which will go directly to Bonalbo, East Lismore and Condong Bowling Clubs, Dunheved Golf Club and Dural Country Club through the ‘Clubs Helping Clubs’ initiative.
ClubsNSW first introduced ‘Clubs Helping Clubs’ in the wake of the Black Summer Bushfires where it facilitated over $300,000 from donor clubs to recipient clubs.
Merimbula RSL Board president Graeme Williams said the NSW club community had rallied for Merimbula after the Black Summer bushfires and the RSL was pleased to be able to return the favour.
“Clubs are the heart of their communities and the sooner they can get back on their feet and be a safe haven where people can come to relax and talk, the better.”
Mr Williams said clubs were a vitally important gathering place as part of the community’s long-term recovery.
“We understand first-hand how long it takes for towns and regions to recover from a natural disaster, especially one of this unprecedented scale and size. We appreciate the challenges that lay ahead for the northern NSW communities and our hearts go out to everyone who has been impacted.”
